Party in the Paddock During the summer months Newbury Racecourse hosts a series of Party in the Paddock fixtures, where famous bands perform live after racing. In May of 2009, 80’s legends Madness rocked over 15,000 race goers with their famous ska hits and then Bjorn Again bought Mama Mia Mania to Newbury in July. Finally, Mick Hucknall and Simply Red will caress race goers ears with their smooth tones after racing at the final Party in the Paddock fixture of 2009 on CGA Ladies Day on Saturday 15 August.
The Winter Festival featuring the Hennessy Gold Cup A highlight of the Jump Season is the three day Winter Festival featuring Saturday’s Hennessy Gold Cup from Thursday 26 November to Saturday 28 November 2009 at Newbury Racecourse. The Hennessy Gold Cup, ran over a racing distance of over 3 miles, is an ultimate test of the racehorse’s stamina and jumping ability and has a total prize money fund of £200,000. Numerous racing heroes have won the famous race, including in recent times Denman who was victorious in 2007 and Arkle who won the race back to back in 1964 and 1965.
There is also something for everyone over the three day festival, with a winter shopping village perfect for Christmas shopping and also being a highlight on the social calendar on Gentleman’s Day on the Friday, men can come “Dressed to Kill”.
Fun for all the Family Racing at Newbury Racecourse is tailored to all the family offering top horseracing and a host of family entertainment. A favourite with the kids, our Newbury Racecourse mascot Harry the Horse will also make appearances on race days. Further to this, Harry will be giving out his FREE Hotshots Fun Packs, which include a jockey’s autograph page, crayons and puzzles
All weekend and school holiday fixtures are great for family events and as well as horseracing action we ensure there is plenty of extra entertainment for kids and parents to! With under 18’s going free, a day at Newbury races makes a fantastic value day out. The Rocking Horse Nursery and crèche is open to race goers wishing to leave their children (maximum of 2 hours) on all Saturday and Sunday race days. Although there is normally availability is it advisable to book.
